With the help of conservative dentistry we can remove the damaged parts of the teeth, reconstructing their shape and functions. In case of caries, for example, the tooth is replaced by high quality materials. The caries can be superficial or deep.

• Direct Technique: In the case of superficial dental caries, just remove the damaged piece together with the enamel by clogging the tooth. The use of silver amalgams, due to the mercury content, has been replaced with composite materials that require a narrower cavity.
• Indirect Technique: Dental pulp can also be involved in deep dental caries, crossed by nerve fibers: in this case the doctor must proceed with the root canal treatment or devitalization. To repair the loss of dental substance, an inlay will be a perfect solution, reconstructing only the damaged or missing part of the tooth, affecting minimally the patient's oral cavity.

Today, with innovative techniques, we are able to rehabilitate our teeth without having to extract them. These are non-invasive procedures, which simply eliminate the damaged tissue and restore the tooth.

Dental compounds used in conservative dentistry

Over the last few years, conservative dentistry uses compounds that require less invasive preparations than traditional amalgams.

The materials used

Compounds for dental filling consist of 15-30% of synthetic resins and 70-85% of filling particles such as quartz, glass and ceramics. Over the years it has been used with excellent results to clog the anterior teeth and today thanks to the continuous progress in the research of materials, it is also used for the posterior teeth.

It is possible to guarantee long-lasting and very precise results from an aesthetic point of view, choosing the color closest to the natural tooth.

How does the compound fit into the dental cavity?

The material of the composites containes plastic and it can be easily placed into the dental cavity. Exposing the composite to ultraviolet light beams (blue light), the mass becomes hard, adhering to the hard substance of the tooth. At this point the obturation is finished and the tooth regains its functional and aesthetic characteristics.
